Check Your Ego

I was recently browsing the pages of this month's Allure and came across an article on confidence.  Actually, they listed 39 ways to boost your ego, which got me thinking...

Are we born with confidence, is it cultivated over time or is it a state of mind we can all create?

Some of their tips that resonated in me included:

1. Accept praise

2. Don't exaggerate your mistakes

3. Assume people like you

4. Stop envy

5. Remember the good

6. Put on lipstick

Growing up, I remember thinking my mother was the most confident, self-assured woman I knew.

She taught me a few things that have stuck with me over the years:

1. Always, ALWAYS put on makeup before leaving the house {you never know who you're gonna see}

2. Everyone is faking it and you should too.  Translation: if you go into a room knowing no one, but you put a smile on your face, everyone will think you're bubbling over with confidence.  And that's always attractive. 
{Or: if you look confident, you are confident}

What do you do to boost your confidence, even if temporarily?

I love all the fabulous, airy tops, her abundance of gold jewelry, oversized Jackie O glasses and dark, slicked-back ponytails. She also makes a strong case for a gold Minx manicure, no?  Hilary seems to channel Aly MacGraw, which I just LOVE...

Thought I'd check in and spotlight my....BUMP!

I typically blog about fashion, beauty & the like, but here are some personal gems from my pregnancy to brighten up your mornings.

O: I'm here with one of my favorite and least known bloggers, Lisi, of The Beauty File. Say hi for Elle.com!

L: Hi?

O: Sooooo, what's up with that major, I mean MAJOR stomach of yours? Is fat in?

L: Um, I'm 27 weeks pregnant.

O: Oh.  So, wow, you look great!  What on earth have you been eating to gain that much weight?

L: Uh, thanks?  A whole lotta dairy!  This winter, my love for pasta + cheese became more like an obsession and I skulked around the hot bar at Whole Foods at least three times a week for their amazing mac-n-cheese.  Really, you should try it.

O: That's so gross. And creepy. Anyway, what have you been craving lately?  Lard?

L: Well, funny you should ask.  I am still on dairy, but have switched to chocolate milkshakes.  Not like, everyday or anything, but they're pretty high up on my list.

O: I've never had one. So, I'd pretty much never call you, "fashionable," but what kinds of designers are you wearing these days...if any?

L: Um, well, I'm ADORING gap maternity, especially THIS tank top.  Every pregnant woman should buy at least three of them for the hot summer months.  I also love this brand, Ripe Maternity (from Australia), they have some amazing pants for summer.  I like Target's Liz Lange & Moody Mamas lines as well.

O: Ewe.  Ok, enough.  I see Jane Aldridge and need to get her on camera before Joe gives me another lecture.  Nice meet...I mean, tata!

One of my favorite starlets, Natalie Portman, was recently crowned as the new face for Parfums Christian Dior. Her makeup & hair here are just stunning!

An Unlikely Pair

Priscilla Rattazzi's photography lights up my life.

Her latest book, "Luna & Lola" is due out this fall and is

filled with photos of her two adorable dogs.

Sorta like DeVito and Schwarzenegger in Twins, no?

They remind me of my dog, Parker & his two dachshund girlfriends, Lola & Sadie.

Whenever we run into them, Lola kisses his face incessantly and I just melt.

Don't you just wanna cuddle with these two all day long?
