Check Your Ego

I was recently browsing the pages of this month's Allure and came across an article on confidence.  Actually, they listed 39 ways to boost your ego, which got me thinking...
Are we born with confidence, is it cultivated over time or is it a state of mind we can all create?
Some of their tips that resonated in me included:
1. Accept praise
2. Don't exaggerate your mistakes
3. Assume people like you
4. Stop envy
5. Remember the good
6. Put on lipstick
Growing up, I remember thinking my mother was the most confident, self-assured woman I knew.
She taught me a few things that have stuck with me over the years:
1. Always, ALWAYS put on makeup before leaving the house {you never know who you're gonna see}
2. Everyone is faking it and you should too.  Translation: if you go into a room knowing no one, but you put a smile on your face, everyone will think you're bubbling over with confidence.  And that's always attractive.
{Or: if you look confident, you are confident}

What do you do to boost your confidence, even if temporarily?

I straighten my hair, put on my boots, make sure there isn't a wrinkle in sight in my outfit, & just go in a room like I can conquer the world. I think confidence is a learned skill cultivated over time. I wish I had more of it sometimes. Great post! I'll have to check out that issue of Allure!

Great advice! I'm an avid believer in faking it, if you pretend to be confident you look confident and eventually you'll be confident! :)

Great post!

I'm a huge fan of the "faking it til you make it" mantra. Sometimes it feels like if we think something hard enough, it just happens - which can be a wonderful thing in some senses (confidence! happiness!) and can be negative in others (self- fulfilling prophecies, etc).

Anyway faking it works wonders - as long as your truly feeeel it & it doesnt come off as fakeish.

Great post! I have found that helping others like buying a homeless man lunch or helping someone w. their groceries can really boost the way you feel about yourself.

And for a super quick fix. an eyebrow wax can work wonders looool

I believe in dressing for the occasion (or over dressing) for confidence more than make up. For instant confidence it helps to be satisfied with the way I look before I walk out the door. I also have little accessories that make my day, such as a nice watch, my favorite purse, or a new pair of shoes.
