The Sea in Winter

"Il Mare d'Inverno"
Grazia November 2010
I love the beach in the cold weather. There's nothing like walking on the boardwalk all bundled up, watching the dark ocean waves crash onto the shore. Of course, wearing over-the-knee suede boots & leotards might be tempting after seeing this editorial, please don't try this at home.
Sincerely Yours,
TBF

What Happened, Anne?

I'm the first to admit, I am NOT an Anne Hathaway fan. That being said, I have to say, she looks beautiful here, at the premiere of a movie she was miscast in to play Jake G's love interest "Love and Other Drugs." Her hair and makeup are total perfection. However, looks can be somewhat deceiving, because if you take a peek at the rest of her, you might very well join me in asking, "What Happened???"  The most horrifying part: it's Valentino. I dunno. Perhaps, just a case of the wrong dress at the wrong time? Maybe you'll disagree with me, but I really must ask, "Seriously, Anne, what happened?"
 {Disclaimer: I really wouldn't describe myself as a mean person.
Certain celebrities just bring this out. Don't judge.}
*Update*
I felt so bad for being so bitchy that I found a MUCH better picture of her from the LA premiere. She's in Antonio Berardi and a style that suits her much more, in my opinion. Still, it doesn't make her a good actress...or...likable. {ha!}

Zara: Inspiring Evening Looks

Zara's lookbooks are causing quite a bit of commotion this season.
The latest edition features evening wear and I have to say, I'm kind of in love.
I'm a huge fan of the metallic + black + leather look and I'm thinking it would kill it during the holiday season. I know I always use the holidays as an excuse to buy a really fun dress. Are we being inspired by these looks? Anyone else running to Zara? Report back, please!

Blake + Vogue

Anna & Karl's little darling, Blake, landed Vogue's "Best Dressed" cover.
If you were in charge, would you have done the same? Some of the other contenders included: Sienna Miller, Jessica Biel, Michelle Obama, SJP, Angelina Jolie & Gaga.
{Blake in Chanel at the 2010 CFDA Awards, above}
{Not entirely fair, because this is obvi from the set...I like this look, though}
I love her, love Serena, love Gossip Girl, love her hair.
Best dressed, though? Not sure.

On Personal Style: By Kate

I recently contacted the hilariously funny stylist, Kate Ringo Suzuki, of Everyday Glamour for tips on developing personal style.  Lucky for us, she compiled a short treatise on the subject & sent along a fabulous photo of Edie Sedgwick to accompany.  If you like what you read, go visit her blog.  You can thank me later...
I think it is safe to say that we all know great personal style when we see it.  The mark of great style is a kind of quiescent fierceness.  And those who posess it have the uncanny ability to knock your socks off while somehow managing to make it all look as easy as pie.
What is more difficult is knowing how to achieve that quiescent fierceness for oneself--how to be an Everyday Glamour Chick, (E.G.C.).  Great style boils down to two plain, straightforward secrets.  The secrets to great style are obvious and simple, yet powerful.
  1. Never forget the Golden Trifecta --Shoes, Handbags, and Hair.  Get these things tight, (yes, tight),  and you're 80% there.  Look around you.  Most people get the clothes right but then get lazy about the Golden Trifecta.  Yes, good shoes, handbags, and hair will cost you a pretty penny.  No, I will not sugar-coat things and tell you that Aldo is just as good as Manolo Blahnik.  It's not.
  2. Fashion is fun but it's better to forget about that for a minute and wear things that suit you.  People will assume that you are original.  They will ask you where you buy your clothes and try to copy you.  And the correct response to this is, "Oh, this old thing?  It's nothing!".  This response will further cement you as a style genius.  Meanwhile, you can laugh to yourself, knowing the truth, that it doesn't take a genius to wear things that suit you.  What if Marilyn Monroe traded in her curvy sheath dresses for Twiggy's A-lined mini dresses? Ridiculous!  But we see Marilyn types trying to be like Twiggy every day.
So, I've established it.   The two plain, straightforward secrets to slammin' personal style.  The rest is gravy, baby.  I invite you to follow Everyday Glamour to discuss the gravy.

Matchmaker

I always thought they made a great couple. Now that he's rumored to be dating Taylor Swift, I think someone really needs to intervene and millionaire matchmake his butt to get with Natalie!  They were so cute in that Brothers movie...they'd have adorable children, no?
Just a thought.

The Royals

The other day I found myself feeding Charlie in bed while watching a special on these two. That I actually DVR'd. A premeditated decision to watch a special on the Royal Courtship. Ok, so after getting to know Miss Kate over the course of the hour, I honestly found myself liking her more than I anticipated. She doesn't have a memorable style, she wears somewhat repulsive Tavi-esque hats and she's going to be a princess/queen. I imagined I'd hate her, but she really is quite sweet.

Thoughts on the situation on her finger? {It's Diana's}
General comments?
